Through the California Healers Network, California will have access to a network of Healing Justice practitioners who will help BIPOC communities reimagine public safety. By developing and strengthening rituals, activities and programs that make use of healing practices indigenous to our communities, organizers will be equipped with the tools to build relevant alternatives to 911 to their locations.

“The California Healers Network will address harms caused by the prison industrial complex in a way that institutionalized ‘help’ has yet to do. The current medical industrial complex has been complicit in state violence and caused further harm to BIPOC communities. To rely on the state for BIPOC health is no longer an option. In my work in Los Angeles I have seen the Healing Justice framework help families who have lost loved ones in LA County Jail not only strengthen their capacity to fight for justice for their loved one, but to fight alongside other impacted community members. Healing Justice is not individualized self care—it is about collective care and healing and thus is a necessary organizing tool for transformation. We need our own healing institutions and we can build this with Healing Justice by going city by city, neighborhood by neighborhood and organizing healers networks that can uplift the emotional, spiritual, physical, and psychological health and wellness of all poor and BIPOC communities across the state of CA." said Guadalupe Chavez, Healing Justice Organizer for Justice Teams Network.
